Activity
10 April 2026, Friday

The novel is narrated in the first person by “Death,” who recounts the stories he witnessed while “harvesting lives” during World War II. Author Markus Zusak, who is descended from Jews who experienced the war, combines family testimony with his imagination to portray a German girl who heals from wartime trauma through reading and writing.

The second session of Go Reading of the semester will be held in April by XJTLU Library and Reader Association (the 46th in total). The selected book is The Book Thief. You are invited to join us on this moving journey of emotional recovery alongside a girl shaped by the aftermath of war.
