This is a library session for postgraduate students in the 2017 pre-master summer course.
This in an online workshop aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to learn more about how to select appropriate databases to search for information effectively. In this workshop, you will learn about how to find related materials for your course assignments and essays by using library databases. The following topics will be covered:
The introduction to ‘databases'
Preparations for your search -- identify information needs, determine the search types & select an appropriate database
Basic searching skills
Knowledge of XJTLU Library databases
Other library services which may help
This workshop will:
Develop your understandings of your information needs
Articulate the differences between library databases and Discover
Select appropriate library databases to find information
Formulate a search using keywords and subject terms
Apply basic searching techniques to conduct an effective search
