From 23rd to 25th March, eight representatives of XJTLU Library Gloriette Foundation participated in the sixth Yangtze River Delta Forum of Clubs, which was held on the Zijingang Campus of Zhejiang University over three days. The university clubs from Shanghai, Nanjing and Hangzhou, including Shanghai Maritime University, Nanjing University Fanbu Club, and Zhejiang University Kindness Club, took part actively in this Forum. They exchanged ideas and planned their future development together. At the opening ceremony, Foundation (Club) President, Zhenjian Wu, was invited to make a speech on behalf of XJTLU Library Gloriette Foundation.
The Yangtze River Delta Forum of Clubs is primarily organized by Zhejiang University Students’ Association of the ‘Three Rurals’ (representing agriculture, farms, and farmers). It gathers the top welfare clubs in the Yangtze river delta, and aims to facilitate communication among the clubs, as well as popularize welfare activities. This Forum has a variety of activities, including discussion in the main forum as well as in the subsidiary forums, and selection of welfare projects. At the end of the Forum, the clubs organized a flash welfare activity, details of which can be found at the end of the text.
On both the main and sub-forums, members of the Gloriette Foundation expressed their ideas fervently, which resulted in a breathtaking imagery. One of the notions put forward by our Foundation, that ‘a club which learns from its fraternity contributes to its self-development, whilst interaction with social organizations such as NGO leads to improve social communicative skills’, was widely accepted and supported by other clubs. In other developments, the President of Zhejiang University Alumni Association, Bocan Sun, and the 2008 Ford International Scholar, Madam Scar, explained welfare and current social trends using Ted and answered students’ questions.
The Gloriette Foundation also participated in the selection of welfare projects. This competition is a significant component of the sixth Yangtze River Delta Forum of Clubs. It is aimed at building a communication platform between university clubs. Club members benefited immensely from communicating and exchanging welfare ideas with each other.
At the end of the Forum, the Gloriette Foundation organized a flash welfare activity with Tongji University and other university clubs in the vicinity of the West Lake as its contribution to publicize welfare.
A little spark can kindle a great fire. It is hoped that this small spark of welfare will light up the future.
