The Vice Principal of Oxford University, Professor William James, Visited XJTLU Library

On August 25, 2014, Professor William James, Pro-Vice-Chancellor at the University of Oxford, UK, and Jenifer Tung, the President of Oxford University China Region Office with their colleagues, made a special trip to visit Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University Library.

The Head of the XJTLU Library, Librarian Bi Xin, warmly welcomed the visiting delegation from Oxford University, and made special arrangements for a welcome party from the library staffs. Librarian Chen Qin from Library User Service Division also accompanied the group and described in detail the library floor layout, the library collections, advanced equipment, and the unique library culture. All of these details had indeed left a deep impression – the Oxford University delegation was really impressed especially by the Digital Library concept and strategic direction of XJTLU Library and the emphasis on building and expanding the electronic resources of the library. Professor William James praised, “In the current digital age, focusing on the development of electronic resources is indeed crucial, and it is an important direction to which libraries around the world have to strive to develop.”
