Library as a Bridge: Shaping Future Academic Support Services with the Entrepreneur College

To enhance communication and information exchange between the Library and the XJTLU Entrepreneur College (XEC), Ms. Liping Yang, Deputy University Librarian, and Dr. Graham Dawson, Co-Chair of the Library Advisory Group, led the team to the Entrepreneur College on November 22nd and December 1st, 2023, to organize the 'Library as a Bridge' event. The meeting sought to present an overview of the specialized academic services available to the eight schools at the XEC. The conversation centered on the feasibility of providing customized services to meet the unique requirements of each school and exploring opportunities to strengthen cooperation.

On the morning of November 22nd, Ms. Liping Yang and Dr. Graham Dawson, accompanied by their team, held separate meetings with the Deans of the School of Cultural Technology, the School of Intelligent Finance and Business, and the School of AI and Advanced Computing.

Prof. Alvaro Collar, the Dean of the School of Cultural Technology, expressed concerns about the promotion of the media space, the resource recommendation and acquisition process, and methods to enhance students' information literacy education. He expressed a willingness to collaborate with the library team to jointly organize events on the SIP campus in the future.

The library team reached a consensus with Prof. Junsong Chen, the Dean of the School of Intelligent Finance and Business, on further clarifying the textbook procurement process.  Additionally, they discussed enhancing the school’s understanding of IFB-related resources provided by the Library and providing information literacy training for students at the initial stage of the FYP.

Prof. Angelos Stefanidis, the Dean of the School of AI and Advanced Computing, inquired about the rules related to Open Access publishing. He engaged in discussions with Ms. Liping about the impact of AI tools on students' academic writing. Furthermore, Prof. Angelos and the library team explored the possibility of future collaboration to conduct diverse information literacy education and training.

On the afternoon of November 22nd, the library team held a meeting with Prof. Miguel Baptista Nunes, the Dean of the School of Internet of Things. Prof. Miguel expressed his interest in establishing an independent subject guide for the IOT school. He emphasized the importance of the collection and preservation services for Final Year Projects and discussed with the library team the possibility of organizing workshops on bibliometric analysis training in the future.

On the morning of December 1st, Ms. Liping Yang led the team to continue the conversations in the XEC again. On the morning, they met with the Program Directors of the School of Intelligent Manufacturing Ecosystem (Dr. Wei Chen), the School of Robotics (Dr. Sami Hajja), and the School of CHIPS (Dr. Qifeng Lu). During the meeting, several teams unanimously expressed the need to enhance students' information-searching and referencing skills. They collectively expressed anticipation for future collaborative efforts in organizing the Researcher Academy.

 

On the afternoon of December 1st, the library team held a meeting with Prof. Andrew King, the Associate Dean of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Hub. Two teams engaged in a detailed discussion on how the library can further enhance support for the EEH in the future.

As the academic landscape at the XEC continues to evolve, the Library remains dedicated to serving as a dynamic hub for knowledge, innovation, and collaborative learning. The conversations facilitated the alignment of the Library's resources with the diverse academic needs of the XEC, signifying a significant step towards fostering a synergistic relationship between the Library and the XEC, with a shared vision of enhancing the academic experience for students and faculty alike.
