In order to enhance the information literacy and data analysis ability of staff and students, the Library invited Dr. Yi Zou and Dr. Peng Zhao from the School of Science, and Dr. Xiangyun Lu from IBSS, to conduct four workshop sessions of Smart Tools Series on the popular programming languages R and Python.
刚刚过去的四周,为增强师生的信息素养和数据分析能力,图书馆与院系深度沟通合作,共同推出了Smart Tools系列课程。来自理学院的邹怡博士、赵鹏博士,以及来自国际商学院的卢祥匀博士,分别围绕R和Python两种热门编程语言,带来了四期精彩纷呈的实训课。
With close cooperation between guest speakers and librarians, the courses received wide attention with a total registration of 282 people. This mode of cooperation leverages the library's advantages in terms of platform and resources, and fully utilizes the expertise of faculty members from academic schools.
在授课嘉宾与馆员的密切配合、精心准备下,课程受到了师生的广泛参与,共计282人次注册参加。这种合作模式借助图书馆平台和资源方面的优势,充分发挥院系老师的专业知识和教学经验,面向全体师生提供全面专业的培训内容。
R Workshop session 1 was delivered by Dr. Yi Zou. As a leading ecologist and entomologist with numerous publications, Dr. Zou has professional expertise in developing novel R packages to effectively measure biodiversity at different dimensions. In this session, he introduced the basics of R language and data retrieval, and led the participants to write functions and master the basic skills of data analysis through hands-on exercises.
R语言第一期课程由邹怡博士授课。作为发表过多篇高质量论文的生态学研究者,邹怡博士擅长开发R语言软件包来测量不同维度的生物多样性。本期入门课程,他首先介绍了R语言和数据读取的基本知识,并通过实操练习带领学员编写函数,掌握数据分析的基本技能。
Dr. Peng Zhao, who is interested in environmental data science, brought R Workshop session 2. Dr. Zhao has published three books about data visualization and developed several R packages. He demonstrated how to produce different types of graphs with R. Using R for scientific plotting provides a more visual representation of patterns and trends in the data.
R语言第二期课程由赵鹏博士授课。他对环境数据科学有浓厚的研究兴趣,已出版三本关于R语言和数据可视化的书籍,并开发了多个R 语言软件包。在第一期课程的基础上,赵鹏博士演示了如何用利用R语言进行科研绘图,从而更直观地展现数据的规律和趋势。
Both sessions of Python Workshop series were offered by Dr. Xiangyun Lu. As the director of IBSS Digital Accounting Lab, her research interests lie in the field of applying new AI algorithm/method to Accounting and Finance research. The courses started from the basics of Python and WRDS, and guided participants step by step to collect data from WRDS with the help of Python, and perform visual analysis on the raw data. With the help of python, data analysis will become more compelling and understandable.
Python系列的两节课程均由卢祥匀博士讲授。作为IBSS数字会计实验室主任,卢祥匀博士正在研究如何将新的人工智能算法应用于会计和金融领域。课程从Python基础和WRDS(沃顿)数据平台使用方式出发,逐步指导学员们借助Python收集WRDS数据,并将原始数据进行可视化分析。有了python的帮助,庞杂抽象的原始数据可以转化为直观易懂的图像,从而帮助研究者把握数据的分布和规律。
Excercise and Q&A session were scheduled in each workshop, allowing learners to master programming statements through hands-on practice. Any question raised by the learners during the practices were well-solved one by one by the speakers and teaching assistants. After the workshops, the participants gave positive feedback, considering it to be a good opportunity to get started with programming. Some of them also intended to further explore programming cases after the class.
为达到更好的教学效果,每节课程都安排了练习环节和问答环节,让学习者通过实践理解掌握编程语句。对于操作过程中的种种疑问,各位老师和助教一一进行了解答。课程结束后,学习者纷纷给出好评,认为这是一个很好的编程入门机会。部分学员还打算在本系列课程的基础上进一步学习相关内容,将数据分析技能运用于科研和工作之中。
In the future, the Library will continue to dedicate to information literacy education and jointly with the academic schools to bring workshops for students and staff in order to facilitate their learning, teaching and research.
未来,图书馆将继续开展信息素养教育工作,同时联合院系老师打造品牌课程,惠及全校师生,最大化教育资源。
