On the afternoon of 16th October 2015, The “E-Discovery Week” held by the Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University library came to a successful conclusion.  Students who won prizes in the competition had pictures taken with the library staff and activity organizers.  A week of initiatives and explorations have been treasured as precious memories.

In order to strengthen students’ knowledge of e-resources and improve their information literacy, the XJTLU library organized the “E-Discovery Week” from 12th to 16th of October at the entrance of the library. It featured activities, games and competitions to introduce students to the wealth of digital resources accessible throughout the library. These resources include access to more than 2.5 million e-books, 5 million online journals and a variety of academic databases.

As part of e-Discovery Week, the library will also run sessions on how to write for academic purposes, as well as how to appropriately cite references. These sessions are just part of a wider programme of skills development and training that the library offers to students and staff.

The activity attracted a considerable amount of participants.  Students spread the news and shared their experiences through social media platforms such as WeChat and Sina Weibo.  Over 100 students and staff took part in the quizzes and training courses. On the afternoon of 16th October, a prize draw took place.  56 lucky participants took their prizes home.  These prizes included Kindle Electronic Readers, Removable Hard drives and E-Discovery Packages.

The E-Discovery week was a very successful event which perfectly integrated education with entertainment.  As a result, students’ information literacy has been enhanced; the services of the XJTLU library has been embodied, and the academic environment of the campus has been maintained and developed.
