2024年7月25日下午，西交利物浦大学图书馆为来自世界各地的国际学生举办了一场别开生面的悦读会。此次活动以“品读苏州园林”为主题，由图书馆馆员茅文沛担任主讲人，旨在通过解读双语经典书籍《东南园墅》一书，让国际学生深入了解苏州古典园林与江苏文化的魅力。
On the afternoon of July 25, 2024, XJTLU library held a unique reading event for summer school international students. The Theme of this event is "Go Reading! Exploring Suzhou Classical Gardens with Glimpses of Gardens in Eastern China". The event aimed to provide an in-depth understanding of the charm of Suzhou classical gardens and Jiangsu culture through the bilingual book " Glimpses of Gardens in Eastern China ".
活动一开始，主讲人简述了苏州这座城市的地理位置和文化底蕴，并介绍了苏州古典园林的相关历史背景。随后，她结合了《东南园墅》这本书的各个章节，详细介绍了苏州园林的历史背景和设计理念，讲解了中国园林与西方园林的异同，并重点介绍了苏州的两大名园：拙政园和网师园。通过丰富的图片、视频和生动的讲解，学生们仿佛亲临其境，领略了苏州园林的独特风采。
At the beginning of the event, the speaker briefly outlined the geographical location and cultural heritage of Suzhou, introducing the historical background of Suzhou classical gardens. She then used various chapters from the book "Glimpses of Gardens in Eastern China" to provide a detailed introduction to the history and design concepts of Suzhou gardens, highlighting the differences between Chinese and Western gardens. The speaker focused particularly on two famous gardens in Suzhou: the Humble Administrator's Garden and the Master of Nets Garden. Through rich images, videos, and vivid explanations, students felt as though they were transported to these iconic gardens, experiencing their unique beauty firsthand.
主讲人介绍道，拙政园以其广阔的水面和自然的布局而闻名，被誉为中国四大名园之一。网师园则以其精致小巧、布局紧凑而著称，是苏州园林中最具代表性的小型园林之一。通过对这两座园林以及经典园林取景手法的详细介绍，学生们不仅了解了苏州园林的建筑特点和艺术价值，更深刻体会到了中国传统文化的独特魅力。
The speaker introduced that the Humble Administrator's Garden is renowned for its expansive water features and natural layout, earning its place as one of the Four Great Chinese Gardens. The Master of Nets Garden is celebrated for its exquisite compactness and intricate design, making it a quintessential example of small-scale Suzhou gardens. Through these detailed introductions of two gardens and the classic landscaping techniques used in Chinese garden design, students not only learned about the architectural features and artistic values of these gardens but also gained a deeper appreciation of the unique charm of traditional Chinese culture.
除了对苏州园林文化的详解，本次活动还特别增设了漆扇制作体验环节。国际学生们不但了解了漆扇的制作工艺和历史，还制作了属于自己的漆扇，整个过程既有趣又充满意义，学生们纷纷表示收获颇丰。
In addition to the detailed exploration of Suzhou garden culture, this event also featured a special lacquer fan crafting experience for students from around the world. The international students learned about the craftsmanship and history of lacquer fans and crafted their own fans, finding the entire process both enjoyable and meaningful. They expressed that the experience was highly rewarding.
此次悦读会不仅加深了国际学生对江苏文化、对苏州园林的理解，也促进了中外文化交流，为他们的夏校学习生活增添了难忘的一笔。活动结束后，学生们表示，希望未来能有更多这样的机会，进一步了解中国的传统文化和艺术。
The reading event not only deepened international students' understanding of Jiangsu culture and Suzhou gardens but also promoted cultural exchange between China and other countries.
